River Edge is proud to offer medication for addiction treatment via Buprenorphine (Suboxone). Proven effective, this evidence-based treatment can help individuals with opioid use disorder reach and maintain recovery.

Located at River Edge: Macon-Bibb County, the Medication for Addiction Treatment Clinic can serve up to 50 individuals at a time who are seeking recovery from opioid use disorder. In order to receive medication for addiction treatment, individuals must complete an intake assessment  at River Edge.  River Edge: Macon-Bibb County is open access, and individuals can undergo the assessment between 8:30 a.m and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Once admitted into services, individuals should follow service guidelines in order to continue receiving this treatment. Guidelines include attending group counseling at River Edge and outside support groups such as Twelve Step.  Individuals who struggle to follow service guidelines will be referred to a higher level of care and/or discharged from Suboxone services.

About Suboxone:

Suboxone is a medication that, when administered under the supervision of a licensed physician, diminishes the withdrawal symptoms and cravings associated with opioid use disorder to help individuals reach and maintain recovery. The U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has identified many paths to recovery, including medication for addiction treatment such as Suboxone.

Opioid use disorder is a brain-based health condition. Repeated misuse of opioids can greatly alter an individual’s brain chemistry, reducing his or her ability to control substance use.

Substance use disorder can affect anyone regardless of socioeconomic status, race, education level, age or gender. In fact, 1 in 7 Americans who drink alcohol or use drugs will experience substance use disorder in their lifetimes.

There is hope! Treatment is effective, and recovery is to be expected. River Edge offers a full continuum of a treatments and supports for individuals with substance use disorders.  Suboxone is one treatment option.
