FOR CONSTRUCTION OF HOUSING FOR ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY
Two affordable rental housing units will be built on Anthony Road and Telfair Street.
MACON – Thursday, The Macon-Bibb County Commission approved funding for $758,123 for Georgia Behavioral Health Services, Inc. to construct two affordable rental housing units on Anthony Road and Telfair Street for adults with intellectual disability. The new units will be specially designed to best support wheelchair bound individuals and outfitted with tailored bathing and lift equipment as well as sprinkler systems.
The four-bedroom homes are slated for completion in 2018. Four adults will reside in each home and will be supported by River Edge Behavioral Health team members. For 38 individuals who need up to 24 hour supports to remain in the community and out of an institution, River Edge currently provides staff support to 12 homes.
“River Edge is delighted by this latest opportunity to further our deep commitment to our community’s differently abled individuals,” said Shannon Gordon, Chief Executive Officer for River Edge Behavioral Health. “On behalf of the staff and individuals supported by River Edge, we thank the Macon-Bibb County Commission for again partnering with us to help these individuals live the most independent, meaningful lives possible.”
